Tour of a Modern European Kitchen (Studio Series Pt. 3)

The final kitchen in our Urbandale studio space is also our working kitchen, complete with a functioning range, oven, refrigerator, sink, and dishwasher. It’s a model that is beautiful enough to inspire but practical enough for entertaining!

The true showstopper of this kitchen is the refrigerator (JennAir).

It’s a piece that blends right into the scenery and appears to be just another cabinet! There is storage space above the fridge that matches the panels, but the appliance itself is simply that - an appliance (albeit a gorgeous one).

We designed and custom-built the plaster hood, accented by a creamy Calacutta marble ledge and a brass rail for hanging. On either side of the range, we have our wood ‘tower-cabinets’. The unique part of these pieces is the finish, which is ultra-matte, and gives them more of a furniture-feel. They immediately draw attention when entering the space!

Another stunning appliance in this space is the 36” Fisher Paykel induction range (below). This functional beauty is surrounded by custom drawer storage space for pots and pans, knives, and anything else a home chef could need.

Our sink is an eye-catching centerpiece using the same Calacatta marble we used on the range wall. We carried the marble down the front of the sink base in place of an apron front sink. It’s a bold look for a sink and we love how it stands out. There’s a panel ready dishwasher on the left and motion activated wastebin on the right of this elevated farmhouse washing station.

A Zellige tile backsplash soothes and intrigues with natural color variations that shine on the back wall. We wanted to make sure the texture for this backsplash brought in an organic feel among all the clean lines, and it was hand-laid as such.

Entertaining is effortless around the island. We repeated the matte finished wood-tone cabinets and had honed Black Mist granite installed for a dramatic but soft compliment to the perimeter. It features a bar cabinet and lift up stand mixer storage. The ends of the island were finished with custom-built reeds. All of these little details really bring personality to this space.

This eclectic Modern European kitchen features inset cabinets. Details like the reeded glass in the towers and the dual crown moldings make this an intriguing space to explore, yet practical enough for everyday use.
