4 Kitchen Trends You’ll See in 2023

No matter what happens in our world, the kitchen remains the heart of our homes. As a result, we find it’s one of the best places to focus your energy and time when it comes to design and decoration (and we’re not just saying that because we design kitchens for a living).

We are seeing three major trends emerging for 2023 and the best part of these trends is that it doesn’t require a full remodel to start to implement them in your own home.

Trend #1: Upgraded and Highly Functional Pantries

Homeowners have become obsessed with a clutter-free kitchen and the appearance of more space overall.

While we are the first to applaud a minimalist kitchen, it’s also apparent that there needs to be a place for us to “make the mess”.

This is where the walk-in pantry comes into the spotlight. We are seeing more pantries that are beginning to expand to almost a secondary kitchen space with a sink, counterspace for appliances, a second fridge or oven (or both!).

Even if you don’t already have a walk-in pantry, learning to make the most of the pantry space you already have with focused organization can give your working kitchen space the breath of fresh air that it needs.

Trend #2: Mixed Materials with Texture and Organic Shapes

We’ve been seeing this for awhile now, but the trend of more mixed materials is continuing to surface in kitchen design. We’re seeing more textures overall, as well as softer, organic shapes.

Much of the mixed media we are seeing comes in the form of more natural elements, whether that’s with wood itself or even opening up the kitchen to more natural light through larger window space.

If you’re not in the market for a brand new kitchen remodel, you can achieve this look with plants and wooden decor (such as the driftwood on the counter in the top photo).

Trend #3: Bold, But Not Too Bright

We are overjoyed that homeowners are finally starting to embrace more color again, especially for smaller and secondary spaces.

We have nothing against white cabinets, but deeper shades and tones can really set an overall mood for the area.

Trend #4: Fewer Upper Cabinets

Another trend that will continue is the one that has led us to a more functional walk-in pantry; fewer upper cabinets.

Many homeowners are opting for more visual space, which they can achieve by removing the bulk of the upper cabinets. This lends itself to more light, air flow, and the feeling of a larger kitchen overall.

If storage space is a major concern, adding floating shelves in place of upper cabinets can hit two birds with one stone.

Now that you’ve seen this year’s trends, which one(s) are you most excited about?
